HRM practices in US involve activities and rights that are protected by the employment regulations that confer the rights to employees and impose legal duties to the employer. Therefore, it is imperative for HRM professionals to understand current federal, state and local employment regulations that apply to their respective businesses.

Occupational Health and Safety Act

Pros

The law is important because it ensures that the company maintains full documentation of all hazardous materials utilized. Furthermore, it ensures that employees are trained to handle hazardous material in the workplace.

Cons

The law has been claimed to increase the operational cost of the many companies. This because the laws require regular employees training, purchasing of protective and detection gadgets on a regular basis in order to ensures compliance.

The Americans with Disabilities Act

Pros

The Americans with disability Act prohibits discrimination of employees with disabilities. The law requires the employer to provide accommodations and other essential services in the workplace that enables the employee to execute their duties without difficulties.

Cons

Since quantifying levels of disabilities is usually difficult and enigmatic, the law fails to outline possible disabilities that may result to ADA privileges. This allows individuals without significant disabilities to enjoy a lot of benefits. This eventually strains the organization financially.

The Family Medical Leave Act

Pros

The law protects the special needs of the disabled Americans in the workplace. Besides, the law helps in implementation of workplace standards that enables the disabled person to work with optimum efficiency. The law has transformed the workplace to fit the needs of the disabled persons.

Cons

Even though no legal requirement that requires employee compensation for FMLA it is often expensive to reorganize the office space in order to accommodate the employees. Furthermore, it is often difficult to create working schedule and rearrangement of duties that provide special coverage, especially when disabled person are on duty leave. In conclusion, it evident that laws in the HRM plays a crucial role in safeguarding the rights of the employees, especially from unscrupulous organization. Therefore, strict adherence should be enforced.
